Planning The Perfect Office Christmas Party

Being assigned the task of organizing the office Christmas party can be daunting even to the most organized person. Most everyone is extra busy during the holiday season, and it's often difficult to find time to attend the office party, much less have to plan it. The key is to start planning early in order to avoid the stress involved in planning any event on a tight schedule. Make the arrangements ahead of time and you'll be able to concentrate on enjoying the event when the day finally arrives.

If yours is a small office, you have a variety of options, depending on the personalities of the employees. One option could be a potluck event at an employee's home. The company could supply the main course and beverages, with each guest bringing a dish. The evening could be as simple as cocktails, dinner and good conversation, or you could add some fun in the way of holiday themed games.

Another option for the small office is a nice dinner in a restaurant. This is extremely simple to plan. Pretty much all that is involved is calling, well ahead of time, to make the reservations. Some dining establishments offer the option of a private dining room for small to medium sized groups. In addition, they may offer the option of having a private buffet set up for small groups, rather than each diner ordering individually from the menu. Be sure to ask what options and packages are available when you call.

For a larger office, planning can be a bit more time consuming. For a large corporate office, you will need to find a venue of the appropriate size and of course within the budget given to you. This could be a local restaurant, an event hall, or even at the office itself. If the event is to include dinner, a buffet is always a good way to go. Alternately, the party could include mainly finger foods, allowing the guests to mingle as they sample the various offerings.

There is also the issue of alcohol. Many corporate social events do include alcoholic drinks, and the holiday party is certainly no exception. If you will be serving alcoholic beverages at the party, it is important to serve food throughout the evening. This is almost always the case in the case of a party serving mainly appetizers, but not always so at a dinner party. However, you don't want your guests to become overly intoxicated. Even after the dinner portion of the event is concluded, be sure to have plenty of finger foods to snack on throughout the night. Platters of cheese and crackers, fruit, and other appetizers are perfect.

No matter what the size of the party, it is always a nice touch to have small gifts for each of the guests. For a small office, each guest could be presented with a small Christmas gift basket. This may prove too costly for larger groups, but even then, each guest could be given a small token, and perhaps have a small selection of gift baskets to be presented as door prizes. There are many companies that specialize in themed gift baskets, making the job easier for you.
