Including Dad in New Baby Gift Celebrations

Having a new baby is a very exciting time for a couple. While waiting for the baby to be born everyone fuses over the expectant mother, offering her advice and trying to make her more comfortable. She is treated to celebrations and baby showers (often more than one) where she is the guest of honor. For those nine or so months it can often seem as though “it’s all about her”.

So where is the expectant father in all of this? He is often overlooked or left out of the fuss surrounding the mother during this time but that doesn’t mean that he is out of the picture entirely! Far from it, in fact. He is often quietly in the background, massaging her tired feet, rubbing her sore back, running warm baths, cooking and cleaning when she is too tired, and making late night runs for ice cream, Chinese food or pizza. While his partner is off at yet another get together with the girls, Dad-to-Be can often be found painting the nursery, assembling baby furniture, or baby-proofing the house.

While the attention will soon shift from the mom to the new baby, it would be a very welcome and unexpected gesture to acknowledge the father when sending congratulatory gifts. Whether selecting a baby shower gift or a gift to send after the child is born, don’t forget to give some consideration to the Dad. Is he a rabid Toronto Raptors fan or a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs supporter? Consider giving a gift that reflects this, such as Grenville Station’s new Toronto Raptors Baby Gift or Toronto Maple Leafs Budding Leaf Basket. If he is more of an Ottawa Senators fan our Sen-sational Senators baby gift basket would be a perfect fit! Maybe Dad isn’t really a sports fan but he does love motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson bikes… Our Harley-Davidson gift basket would fit the bill in this case, while our John Deere baby gift is perfect for those guys raised in the country.

Another nice way to acknowledge the Dad is by sending a congratulatory gourmet gift basket to the couple after the baby is born. This is a gift that can be shared by both parents and it is sure to be appreciated, regardless of the gender of the baby. Both Mom and Dad will be putting in their share of sleepless nights and a basket filled with healthy, ready-to-eat snacks will come in handy when they need to keep their energy up late at night and are too tired (not to mention busy!) to make themselves something to eat.

These are just a few ideas for making the new Dad feel included and appreciated during the crazy time that surrounds the birth of a new baby. The main thing is to make sure that both parents feel supported and celebrated. After all, it takes two to make a baby and at least that many (if not more) to care for one! The healthier and happier both the parents are, the greater the chance that the baby will be healthy and happy too, and that’s what it’s all about!
