Designing Traditional Holiday Wicker Gift Baskets

When one thinks of a gift basket, they believe it will be product inside a wicker basket. That’s the traditional appearance. Over the years, there has been a lot of creativity with respect to colour choice and product selection but even more so with the container option. Designers are finding more and more creative ways to express themselves with the container they use. Sleighs, top hats, wagons, theme boxes and stacking boxes are just a few examples of the variety of containers available today.

The traditional wicker gift basket is still the most popular. When someone sees a wicker basket, they immediately recognize it as a gift basket. No thought is required or hesitation to determine the initial emotional response. Open the box, see the basket, and express gratitude. A very popular choice is the light stained wicker as used for the Deck The Halls holiday gift. Another popular choice is the natural willow appearance (Little Saint Nick Christmas basket). These two designs are lower price point designs that offer the full festive punch of the usual large wicker design.

When selecting the container, it’s important to complement the colour scheme and product selection. A white willow or light stained basket would work well with vibrant reds and greens in the product choices. A darker stained design such as the Days of Gold Christmas gift works well with yellows, browns and golds, while the Three Kings xmas gift basket uses the same colour palette but with a light stained basket. If selecting a white willow container, it’s important to choose the colour scheme carefully. A single colour range might not always work but it is still possible as demonstrated with our All I Want for Christmas holiday gift baskets.

In the higher end price range, wicker containers are great choices because of their size. It’s difficult to fit a lot of product in a specialty container that does not provide the depth that of a wicker container. A great visual enhancement is plaid lining, especially for holiday gift baskets. The Seasons Greetings gift basket uses this lining and the product selection of the gift matches it. Other plaid lining choices may fall into different colour ranges but the red and green is usually the most popular. When trying to create a dark themed design, a dark stained wicker basket with dark hues such as the Santa Baby holiday gift basket works well together.

Higher priced gift baskets can range from holiday colours such as green and gold used in the Oh Christmas Tree gift and a larger version of the Days of Gold design that incorporates the same colours but with a lot more products (Must Be Santa holiday gift). The ultimate example of a traditional wicker design would be the Silver Bells Christmas gift basket. This design uses beautiful silver and blue for a very traditional holiday look. These are some examples of the great options available when creating traditional holiday wicker gift baskets. The possibilities are endless and with a little bit of creativity and patience, great designs are waiting to be made!
